While the Udmurt are desperate for the truth of the One true God, glimpses of hope are breaking through the darkness. The New Testament and a children’s Bible has been translated into Udmurt and the Old Testament is hoped to be finished in 2008. The Jesus Film is available in Udmurt and a few tracts have also been translated while others are currently undergoing the process. One evangelical church has printed an Udmurt chorus book in limited quantities and an Udmurt-English/English-Udmurt dictionary is available in electronic format.

Twenty-four Bible League missionaries are working in Udmurtia, with more than 15 of them primarily working in towns or villages. Several of these missionaries are Udmurt. In November 2004 several local churches in the capital city of Izhevsk saw the need for targeting the Udmurt people. They formed an alliance for an Udmurt ministry and have begun to create and initiate a strategy to reach this people group. The early 90s saw growth for new and old churches alike, but since it has slowed.

No international missionaries are known to be working with the Udmurt, but with your help this will soon change. Arkansas White River Baptist Association (WRBA) pastor Jack Gilliland contacted Tim Wicker, Virtual Strategy Coordinator Director for Russia, when Gilliland showed interest in being an instrumental part of what God is doing among the Udmurt. Five pastors from the WRBA are planning an April 2007 vision trip to Udmurtia in preparation for potentially two teams to teach English as a Second Language classes the following July. One team would work in Izhevsk and the other in the village of Chur.
