Before the Event
Pray

In addition to praying daily for the specific event(s) you are hosting, you can spiritually prepare for your gathering with the Seven Days of Prayer for the People of the Woods guide and/or the Udmurt monthly prayer guide.

Choose a location

Since the Udmurt are the “people of the woods,” cabins or wooded areas are ideal places to host this Final Hope event. However, any location—a home, church building, etc.—that meets your needs is suitable.

Invite

Welcome a Bible study group, individuals interested in missions, non-believers or an entire church family! Let invitees know this event is an opportunity to celebrate what God is doing among the Udmurt and to learn more about this lost people group through Udmurtian food and a focused time of prayer. Include in the invitation that women can bring homemade bread, men can bring goat, lamb or pork meat mixed in rice and youth can bring fruits and vegetables like berries, cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms and cabbage. As the host, you can provide your guests with honey, butter, water and hot green tea.

Create

Make these Udmurt recipes a part of your celebration:

Vegetable Salad

Russian Bread

During the Event
Décor

Give your guests a feel for Udmurtia by displaying items that are typical of the Udmurt culture—wooden images, statues or carvings and red, black, white or green patterned, woven fabric. Have guests sit at wooden chairs and small wooden tables, if available.

Family-style meal

Serve the meat in rice, bread, fruit and vegetables in small bowls at each table. Have honey, butter and pitchers of water also at each table. Eat with simple dishes and utensils. Serve hot tea and individual breads with jam and fruit after the main course.

Prayer sequence

After eating, have visible—either at each table or in a central location—representatives of each of the Udmurt gods: ancestors (older picture of a couple or family) and gods of the earth (cup or bowl of dirt), forest (small stick or tree branch), sun, sky (lit candle can represent both sun and sky) and water (cup or bowl of water).

All Scripture taken from the New International Version

Pass around and explain each representation of an Udmurt god. After describing a god, read Scripture (see "The Word on Udmurt gods" to the right) describing what the Word says about that item. Pray as one group or by tables for the Udmurt to be open to the truth about that god and the One and Only (John 1:18). Pray for what the Lord is doing among the Udmurt now and for personal involvement.

After praying over each god, pass out commitment sheets to all attendees. Encourage everyone to seriously consider his or her involvement in helping each Udmurt heart possess eternal hope in Jesus Christ. Allow for a time of personal reflection when individuals can pray and read, sign and date their commitment sheets.

Give attendees the opportunity to share with the group any decisions the Lord may have led them to make through this time of focused celebration. Rejoice together in what God is doing! End the event in a time of prayer, thanking the Father for his perfect plan for us to help him save the world.
